Our native bird steel art is cut from Corten and left to rust. It sits in the garden, weathers, and gets better looking with age.
Why native birds suit a Kiwi garden
A tūī on a flax stem, a fantail mid-turn, a couple of pūkeko working their way across the lawn — you already know these birds. That's the point. They look right in a New Zealand garden in a way a generic ornament never will.
They also work where planting doesn't. A bare fence line, a gravel patch, the corner by the shed, a spot under a tree where nothing grows. A steel bird gives that area something to look at year round.
Popular ones with our customers: tūī, fantail, kingfisher, morepork, kererū, kiwi, pūkeko and the falcon. Some sit on a ground stake, some perch on a post, some tuck into a tree.
Steel, not stickers
Every piece is laser cut here in New Zealand from 2.5mm Corten steel. No paint, no coating, no printed finish to peel off.
Corten rusts on purpose. That orange-brown surface is a protective layer — it forms, settles, and shields the steel underneath. Left outside it just keeps getting richer. It'll mark unevenly at first and that's normal; it's a natural finish, not a factory one.
Worth knowing: Corten runs a little rust down whatever it sits on early on. Great on soil, bark, gravel and lawn. Think twice about placing it straight above pale concrete or a painted deck.
Off the shelf or made for you
A lot of our native bird steel art is ready to go — pick the bird, pick the size, done. Prices start around $58 for the smaller tree birds.
If you want something specific, we make it. A bigger statement piece for the front garden, a scene with your own hills or trees behind it, a bird paired with a family name for a house sign. Send us a photo of the spot and roughly what you've got in mind and we'll put together a mock-up before anything gets cut.
Custom work is usually around 15 to 20 working days from payment and final design approval.
