About the Product

A little native bird character for your entrance. Made in New Zealand, the Fantail House Number pairs a detailed fantail design with your own house number, cut into 2.5 mm Corten steel.

Corten develops a natural orange-brown patina over time, giving each sign its own weathered finish. Choose an open design with no backing, or add a stainless steel or matte black backing to provide contrast behind the cut-outs.

Choose your size

Size Width × height
Small 800 × 340 mm
Medium 1000 × 425 mm
Large 1200 × 510 mm

Backing options

  • No backing: the mounting surface shows through the fantail and number cut-outs.
  • Stainless Steel Backing: a 2 mm stainless steel panel sits 10 mm behind the Corten front.
  • PCOAT Black Backing: a 2.5 mm matte black powder-coated panel sits 10 mm behind the Corten front.

Personalisation and mounting

Enter your house number in the personalisation field. The number shown in the photos is an example; your sign is made to order with your own number.

Designed for wall mounting with four fixing holes. Four screws and four spacers are included; backed options also include four bolts and four nuts. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Made to order

Allow 15–20 working days for no backing or stainless steel backing, and 20–30 working days for the black powder-coated backing option. Corten colour and patina will vary naturally as the steel weathers.

Trust The Rust
This page is designed to help you understand how your Corten steel product will gracefully evolve over time. It provides essential insights into the natural aging process of Corten steel, from its arrival to its transformation into a beautifully rusted piece. Additionally, keep scrolling to see a few tips and tricks.

Rust Guide:
This image gives you a glimpse of how your item might look once it's placed outdoors.

Remember, each piece ages uniquely based on its environment.

Accelerated Rusting Tip:
Want to see its full glory faster? Submerge Corten steel in water overnight and watch as it fast-forwards to a rich, six-month rusted look in just a day or two after removing it from the water.

Care Tips For Corten Steel:
Embrace Natural Beauty: The best care for Corten steel is often no care at all. Its strength lies in its ability to form a protective rust layer that guards against further corrosion. However, if you wish to accelerate the patination process in a different way, you can mist the surface with vinegar and saltwater solution to encourage rusting. After achieving the desired look, simply let nature do the rest.

Cleaning and Maintenance: For general upkeep, a gentle rinse with water is sufficient to remove any surface debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive brushes that can damage the protective rust layer.

Fully Recyclable and Eco-Friendly:
Sustainability at Its Core: Corten steel stands out as an environmentally friendly material. Its longevity and resilience mean it rarely needs replacing, reducing waste and the demand for new materials. When Corten steel does reach the end of its life, it is fully recyclable, ensuring it can be repurposed into new steel products without losing quality or durability.

Low Maintenance, High Reward: The natural weathering process of Corten steel eliminates the need for paint or chemical treatments, both of which can have harmful environmental impacts. This not only saves on maintenance but also reduces the chemical runoff into the environment, making it a preferred choice for eco-conscious projects.

Energy Efficiency in Production: The production of Corten steel is energy efficient, with a lower carbon footprint compared to other materials. Its durability and the absence of the need for protective coatings further enhance its status as a sustainable building material.

What Is Corten Steel?
Corten steel is a durable, weather-resistant steel that develops a protective layer of rust when exposed to the elements. This unique rust layer not only gives it a distinctive orange-brown appearance but also prevents further corrosion, making it a popular choice for outdoor sculptures, architecture, and landscaping projects - hence why we use it and stand by it. Its ability to withstand weather conditions without needing paint or maintenance makes it both practical and aesthetically appealing.
